Nancy Ruth Mace (born December 4, 1977) is an American Republican politician and businesswoman. She currently serves as the U.S. Representative for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District.
Mace was born at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to an Army officer and a schoolteacher. After leaving high school early, she resumed her studies and became the first woman to graduate from The Citadel’s Corps of Cadets in 1999. Later, she earned a master’s degree from the University of Georgia.
Before politics, Mace built a career in business, communications, and consulting. She also authored a memoir about her time at The Citadel.
In 2018, Mace won a seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives. She then won election to the U.S. House in 2020, becoming the first Republican woman from South Carolina elected to Congress.
